About Our Exam Prep Course*
This course is to provide quality preparation for the New York State Private Investigator License Exam. This one-day prep course reviews the content found on the exam, including but not limited to:
- Laws and Regulations in Private Investigation
- Requirements for NYS Private Investigator Licensure
- Confidentiality and Ethics
- Procedures and Reporting
*Introductory Private Investigator Course is a separate course. Radius Investigations cannot guarantee any score or level, nor passing of the NYS P.I. License Exam. Radius Investigations does not administer the NYS Private Investigator License Exam. NYS Private Investigator Exams are administered by the NYS Division of Licensing Services and you must register on your own with the NYS DOLS to take the exam. Please see the information below on exam locations, schedules, procedures, and registration.
This course is a one-day preparation class. This prep class is done by appointment.
Requirements for Exam
In order to be able to sit in on the NYS P.I. License Exam, you must meet New York State’s following eligibility requirements by the time of submitting application for license:
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- Have 3 years of experience as a private investigator or “equivalent position and experience”, which is described in more detail here.
- The principal in a private investigation business entity: this includes overseeing the day-to-day affairs and possessing the expertise in the investigations.
- Get fingerprinted for the Department of Justice Services (Information on finding a fingerprinting location and scheduling)
Not ready to take the NYS PI Exam?
Whether you are not working in private investigation yet or are still acquiring enough experience to take the exam, you can still take our introductory course to learn the skills and techniques used by the experts. Completing the intro course is an excellent asset to have on your resume as you enter or continue in the private investigation field.
